Walsh Makerspace Ribbon Cutting
Grand Opening Event
The ask
Raise awareness and encourage trial of the newly finished Walsh Makerspace among both residents and nonresidents of the developing Walsh neighborhood.
Brand action
The one-of-a-kind workshop needed a one-of-a-kind grand opening event. So instead of the typical ribbon cutting, we created a custom aluminum “ribbon” that was sawed in half by the Makerspace foreman. With the doors officially open, guests were invited to tour the building and learn about its offerings through artisan demonstrations in 3D printing, custom wood imprinting, sewing, and more. Out on the lawn, we set up Maker Stations where adults and kids alike could build their own planters, make felt masks, and create personal clay figurines.
Results
More than 200 guests attended the event, half of whom were nonresidents. While on-site, 85 percent of guests opted to take the tour, 69 percent were interested in learning more about membership, and the Maker Station dwell times averaged 30 minutes.
